The IU-MSI STEM Initiative had a historical collaborative relationship with the Naval Surface Warfare Center Crane Division, better known as Crane, and still offers a number of internship and employment opportunities for students interested in the field of material science, optics, computer, mechanical, and electrical engineering.

Several student internships are available through the U.S. Naval Reserach Labratory including the Summer Student Employment Program (SSEP).
